I agree, there should be more categories in this board related to the site, not just general discussion.

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to do some research on my family. They came from Poland but lived in Wayne, Michigan and Detroit, Michigan. I have a marriage liscense with my original last name being Benoruski. My grandfather, fearing stereotypes, changed our name to Benrock. I can't find any record anywhere of our last name but the liscense says we are from Poland and I have yet to hear otherwise. I am not familiar with the Polish language enough to figure out if maybe it is spelled differently or not. I was hoping that someone might have any advice on where to look or how to begin looking for my geneology. My grandfather never said much of anything to do with our Polish roots and he has passed on. I have a few names and where they lived in America, but that is about it. Does the name Benoruski sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Oops here it is August and I finally made my first mistake. Bydgoszcz is alive and well it's about forty miles North of Gniezno (where many of my relative reside) According to my church book, there are many church located there. Sorry for the mistake. And my parish book is dated 1984 not 1884 Bill |

I found a place named Bydgoszcz in an 1884 book of catholic parishes. I can't find it on a recent map of Poland. It looked like a pretty big place located a little north east of Posnan and close to the city of Gniezno. I hope this helps Bill

Has anyone ever heard of the town of Bygdocz? This is my great grandmother's birthplace on her death certificate. Google provided a few hits, but none of them were very helpful. One did describe it as an area, rather than a town. Could this be a town that no longer exists? I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me.

I think the web site provides an opportunity to do some excellent genealogical research. However the statement under general discussions FEEL FREE TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IN THE BOARD, also provided disinterested persons (as we have seen in the past few day) a place to advertise their goods and I'm sure is a big head ache for the web master.
