Hidden Gems in Family Letters and Postcards
Dorota Walker – Polish Researcher
Sunday, May 21, 2023 2 pm Central Time
Many researchers have ancient letters or postcards in difficult handwriting, often written in poorly spelled and poorly punctuated Polish by uneducated farmers, with 19th century words and phrases no longer used or with different meanings, often in local dialect. Yet, they contain the emotions and histories of your ancestors, the gossip in the town from which they emigrated, and an insight into the lives who stayed behind. Dorota will explore these and other points to help you to not only translate, but to unveil the fuller messages held witting these personal communications between family members separated by thousands of miles.
